BlackProfessionalsDMV.com exists because the biggest financial decisions a family makes — buying a home, closing on a loan, writing a will, choosing an advisor — deserve the same intentionality as choosing where to eat.
“Buy Black” movements built real momentum around restaurants, boutiques, and salons. The professionals who touch the largest dollar amounts in a family’s life — real estate agents, lenders, attorneys, advisors, insurance agents, doctors — were rarely part of that same list.
This directory was built to close that gap for the DMV: Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Southern Maryland. It’s organized the way working professionals already refer clients to each other — by category, by city, and by the kind of decision someone is facing.
We’re building this market by market rather than launching the entire tri-state area at once, so every listing gets real attention instead of being one row in a spreadsheet.
What it takes to be listed
This isn’t a pay-to-play directory. Every professional is expected to meet the same bar.
Active license, in good standing
Real estate, lending, legal, financial, insurance, and medical professionals must hold a current, verifiable license in the jurisdiction they serve.
Actually serving the DMV
Listings are organized by where a professional actually practices — Washington DC, Northern Virginia, or Southern Maryland — not a national footprint with no local presence.
Responsive to referrals
A listing that goes cold isn’t useful to anyone. Professionals are expected to respond to inquiries that come through the directory.
Black-owned or Black-led practice
The directory’s purpose is visibility for Black professionals and the clients looking specifically for them.
